2021 has been a challenging year for insurance, for business and for human beings. We thought that tech would be the biggest driver of change in the insurance sector. But it turns out that a crisis of pandemic proportions can also force us to live the buzzwords of agility and responsiveness in real time. Of course, it’s also tested our tenacity and capacity for kindness.
These words have been our experience of our specialist business partners this year and in a difficult cycle, it is especially sweet to be able to recognise solid performance. Our gold award winners for Excellence in Underwriting Performance over the past year are CIA Building Insurance Specialists and Health & Accident Underwriting Managers. The Combined Ratio Gold award over a three-year cycle went to Camargue Underwriting Managers and Transit Underwriting Managers.
Douglas Haig, Managing Director of CIA Building Insurance Specialists was awarded the Navigator of the Year 2021. The Compass Insure Navigator of the Year typically recognises an individual for performance, innovation and endurance – qualities that Doug has amply displayed in the past few years and we are thrilled to acknowledge his contribution.
All these teams have demonstrated business acumen and leadership and it has shown in their results. At this year’s virtual event, comedian Nik Rabinowitz paid tribute to each of our winners. Unfortunately, we can’t share that with you because it would have to be censored first. But to use Nik’s words: “to our powerhouses and our gentlemen … make some noise, have some champagne and may we never forget.”
Ismail Ismail, MD of Compass Insure commented: “As the insurance sector, we are in the business of paying claims and we are proud to have contributed to the re-building of businesses and lives, especially in the past few years. All our specialist partners have responded with skill and commitment to the policyholder. We salute your steadfast underwriting discipline whilst working closely with us as your risk carrier, to deliver to policyholders. You’ve demonstrated a magic formula and we look forward to more magic in the year ahead.”
